Eyelashes, eyebrows, mustache, beard. While almost all the hair on the human body is formed in the same way,
when we talk about hair and explain the composition, we are referring exclusively to the hair of the head.
The hair is just that: hair of the head.
91 percent of the hair is composed of a fibrous protein called Keratin
and if you look it under a microscope you can see that its shape is similar to that of a cylindrical stem with a root called
. There's where the hair borned, formed and grows.
The base of the root is dilated in the bulb (see picture: hair follicle
) which is based on the dermal papilla and the surrounding.
All the follicles or roots are formed before our birth and there is no natural way to generate them once we leave the womb of our mothers.
If you hear that someone can regenerate the follicles, do not believe him because it's wrong.
What comes closest to the regeneration of the follicles is the Hair microtransplant that does not generate new hair follicles but it's extracted
from a sector of your scalp to put it in another.
Nowadays we can hear about hair cloning, but still there is nothing true about it.
We have approximately one hundred thousand hairs on our head and the average density is around 500 hairs per square centimeter.
It's continually renewed and the average fall is usually between 50 and 120 hairs per day.
Do not be alarmed if you find that too much hair fall out when you are taking a bath or on your pillow.
It is absolutely normal to lose between 50 and 120 hairs per day.
When you really have a hair loss problem, what happens is that the new hairs grow longer and thinner.
The growth cycle can be divided into three phases that occur simultaneously in different areas of the scalp:
- Anagen: It is the growth phase that lasts between two and eight years.
We can say that 90% of the hair (rotating between different sectors of the scalp) at this stage is growing about an inch (2.54 cm) per month.
- Catagen: This phase is a transition / involution that last 2 to 3 weeks where the hair stop growing.
1% of the hair (rotating in different sectors) remains in this phase.
- Telogen: It is a resting phase that lasts two or three months.
9% of the hair is in this stage and that is why it's normal to loss up to 100 hairs per day,
considering that the average person has about a hundred thousand hairs.
Under normal conditions the hair falls during the telogen and anagen stages,
when a new hair grows back pushing from the inside of the rootthe previous hair.
